In this second episode of ICAA Influencers, architect Peter Pennoyer describes the evolution of his architectural studies, which began when he was interested in the International Style when he was a high school student, but quickly changed course after he met Robert A.M. Stern. This newfound fascination with classical architecture brought him to work at Stern's firm, Robert A.M. Stern Architects, and he later founded his own firm Peter Pennoyer Architects and co-authored books on the venerable New York firms of Cross & Cross and Warren & Wetmore. As Peter describes it, classicism is not simply about replicating ancient designs - rather, the movement posits that "history is an ongoing conversation" between the architects across the centuries, who work in harmony to build a city.
ICAA Influencers is a new five-part series of interviews with today’s top architects on the topic of legacy and how they were inspired and influenced by past design. Each episode reveals a remarkable variety of design inspirations that shaped one of the leading minds of classical architecture: Patrick Ahearn of Patrick Ahearn Architect, Tom Kligerman of Ike Kligerman Barkley, Peter Pennoyer of Peter Pennoyer Architects, Bobby McAlpine of McALPINE, and Jim Strickland of Historical Concepts.
