Hosted by the Southern California Chapter
Join the ICAA Southern California on a special visit to Wiseman Studio for a tour and conversation with artist and designer David Wiseman.
Established in 2019 by David and his brother Ari Wiseman, Wiseman studio is a 40,000-square-foot former factory complex on the Los Angeles River. David draws inspiration from the natural world, global decorative arts traditions, and a reverence for timeless craft techniques to create site-specific installations, limited edition works, and unique sculptures.
Guests will be treated to a live demonstration of lost wax bronze casting.
David Wiseman creates bespoke work inspired by the natural world, global decorative arts traditions, and timeless craft techniques. Rather than reproducing historic designs he breathes new life into interiors and environments: porcelain cherry blossom ceilings, bronze patterned filigree folding screens, and polished marble and terrazzo inlay furniture affirm and perpetuate the relevance of ornament and beauty in contemporary architecture and life.
Wiseman’s sculpture, furniture, and site-specific installations derive from a deep, personal engagement with the natural world, and he is driven to create works that have enduring quality and permanence, an attitude that is increasingly rare. He occupies a unique position in the world of contemporary design, bringing together fabrication, studio practice, and traditional craft at the highest levels.
Wiseman has made site-specific installations for public institutions, international brands, and private collections. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design Museum, and the Corning Museum of Glass.
