Join us for a comprehensive exploration of pencil rendering techniques in this engaging course. This class is designed for anyone looking to enhance their drawing skills, from beginners to those seeking to refine their existing abilities. Throughout the session, you will learn the fundamentals of pencil rendering, starting with quick and loose sketching techniques for schematic design (SD) and progressing to more detailed and refined drawings. We will cover essential topics, including layout and composition; point of view selection; basic linework and shading; creating depth with shade and shadow; indicating entourage and context; and post-processing techniques for enhancing your renderings.
In addition to practical demonstrations, you will gain insights into the instructor’s personal inspirations and favorite renderers, exploring how their work has influenced his approach to drawing. Whether you’re an aspiring architect, designer, or artist, this course will equip you with the skills and confidence to elevate your pencil rendering abilities.
Joseph Zvejnieks grew up in Haddonfield, New Jersey. Following his passion for art and music, he attended The University of the Arts in Philadelphia where, in 2001, he received his BFA in Painting and Drawing. He began his career at Ferguson & Shamamian Architects. Over the course of his first several years at F&S Joseph honed his skills in pencil, watercolor and digital rendering. He now leads Ferguson & Shamamian's team of renderers committed to creating beautiful images that capture the design process in all its phases utilizing a mix of traditional and digital techniques.
The ICAA provides up to three complimentary spaces in each Continuing Education course for students or young professionals to attend. Upon signing up, you will be entered into a pool of applicants. Individuals will be randomly selected two weeks before the course begins, and all sign-ups will be notified via email. The ICAA National Office does not offer recurring continuing education classes on a regular basis, but aims to offer future sessions of classes whose demand exceeded capacity. Core classes are generally offered annually or semi-annually. The frequency of ICAA Chapter courses varies by region.

Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) in architecture includes topics that relate to the structural integrity and soundness of a building or a building site.
