5 credits towards the ICAA Certificate in Classical Architecture (Ionic Order) and 5 AIA CES Learning Units|Elective for each course session
This hands-on drawing course in The Elements of Classical Architecture sequence picks up where the Introduction to the Ionic Order course leaves off.Part I introduces the extended apparatus of classical forms, syntax and principles of composition related to the Ionic Order. The course provides an orientation to the manner in which the Ionic Order and related classical elements are combined to ensure each part is related to a larger whole and is tectonically sound.Part II explores the use of the Ionic order within an interior and exterior architectural composition in a manner that ensures that the individual components of the design are integrated into a coherent and unified whole. The course introduces classical design principles, ‘rules of thumb’ and compositional strategies that are deployed to achieve a design that exhibits the attributes of stability, legibility and harmony.Registration for this event includes both Part I and Part II. This program will be held virtually via Zoom. Participants will receive a link to the program the week prior to the event. Due to the hands-on nature of the course, registration is limited.
