The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) is proud to partner with the University Club and the One West 54th Street Foundation to present the Annual McKim Lecture – named in honor of renowned architect, Charles McKim. Paula Wallace, President and Co-Founder of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), will deliver the 2019 lecture entitled "SCAD: The Architecture of a University" on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the University Club.
Wallace will tell the story of SCAD’s award-winning built environment, illuminating the university’s impressive and endlessly unique preservation and design projects undertaken across its global campuses. Based on her new book SCAD: The Architecture of a University, the lecture will reveal the resplendent design and storied pasts of the university’s architectural treasures located in Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia, Hong Kong, and Lacoste, France.
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is a private, nonprofit, accredited university with a mission to prepare students for creative careers. Established in 1978, SCAD offers more than 100 academic degree programs on four campuses worldwide and online via SCAD eLearning. Under Wallace's leadership, SCAD has grown to more than 45,000 alumni and students and has gained international renown as a preeminent source of knowledge and professional preparation in every discipline offered at the university.
Wallace is known for conceiving and creating SCAD signature events, including the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, SCAD deFINE ART, SCADstyle, SCAD aTVfest, and SCAD FASHWKND. Her publications include children’s books, interior design books, and two full-length nonfiction books, The Bee and the Acorn: A Memoir, and SCAD: The Architecture of a University.
Wallace has been named among Condé Nast's "Daring 25," DesignIntelligence's "30 Most Admired Educators," and Blouin Artinfo's "Power List: High-Wattage Women of the Art World." She is an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects and recipient of the 2016 Roger Milliken Honorary AIA Legacy Award, the ICAA’s 2016 Arthur Ross Award for Stewardship, 2016 National Trust for Historic Preservation Louise du Pont Crowninshield Award, 2017 American Society of Interior Designers Nancy Vincent McClelland Merit Award, and 2018 Southeast EMMY President’s Award. Wallace was appointed a Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Embassy in the U.S., and the Georgia Historical Society named her a 2015 Georgia Trustee. She serves on the National Advisory Board of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.

There is no member discount for tickets to the McKim Lecture.
Dress is cocktail or business attire. Per the house rules of the University Club, please note that gentleman are required to wear jackets, dress shirts and ties. Ascots and cravats when worn as such are a suitable replacement for ties. Ladies are required to wear clothing meeting similar standards; specifically, tailored clothing that otherwise conforms to this rule, e.g. suits, dresses, or skirts and dress shirts or sweaters, or tailored pants with dress shirts and jackets, elegant sweaters or scarves of equivalent formality. Tailored pants paired with tailored/beaded tops may be worn without a jacket, sweater or scarf. The following clothing is prohibited in the Club House: jeans and other denim apparel, leisurewear of any type, Capri, and cargo pants, rompers, shorts, leggings, T-shirts, sportswear and bare midriff tops, mini-skirts, workout or warm-up suits, beach or thong sandals and sneakers or other athletic shoes.
