Hosted by the Chicago-Midwest Chapter
Join the ICAA Chicago-Midwest Chapter for a unique look at Chicago history through its iconic houses over the past 200 years. Architectural historian Pat Cannon and Photographer Jim Caulfield will share their incredible research and highlights from their newest book, At Home In Chicago: A Living History of Domestic Architecture, which showcases over 75 distinct residential designs. Through this special lecture and stunning photography, we will be given an intimate view into some of Chicago’s most striking homes.
Starting with houses built before the 1871 Great Chicago Fire, through the mansions of the Gilded Age, and the apartments of the Depression, and finally to mid-century and new-century homes, we will see the homes that showed how we lived and how we continue to live in the place we call home. From log cabins to modern net-zero homes, we will explore how custom residential design has evolved, and how our great city’s history is revealed through a chronological procession of dwellings–both big and small. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime look at buildings that are alive and well in 2021 Chicago.
