Co-Hosted by the North Carolina Chapter and the Weymouth Center for Arts & Humanities
Embury was a prominent New York architect known for his country houses and country clubs of the early to mid-twentieth century, as well as bridges and other public works in New York City. Family and social connections brought him to North Carolina where he created a distinctive body of work that helped define the unique architectural character of the Sand Hills resort communities, especially Pinehurst and Southern Pines. This tour will explore the design and historical context of his works in the North Carolina Sandhills. It will include the Boyd House at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities, Highland Pines Cottage & Mid Pines Country Club. The tour will meet at the Boyd House and self drive to the remaining sites, so carpooling is encouraged.
Leading the tour is past ICAA-NC Chapter president, Jim Collins, AIA and Ray Moore from the Arts Council of Moore County.
