The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) is pleased to announce the next event in the Breakfast & Books Series, in partnership with the Rizzoli Bookstore. Once again, the Rizzoli Bookstore will welcome ICAA members and guests before store hours on Wednesday, June 6th, for a discussion with Kathryn Herman and James Doyle of Doyle Herman Design Associates. Kathryn and James will be speaking on the book, Sir Edwin Lutyens: The Arts and Crafts Houses by David Cole.
Doyle Herman Design Associates designs landscapes by integrating artistic expression within the contextual perspective of the presented architecture. The firm seeks inspiration from the past and is guided by aspects of traditional design while being aware of their clients’ desire for a more modern aesthetic.
Principal James Doyle established the firm in 1993 after working as the head horticulturist of a Russell Page garden in Ireland. His experience and strong design philosophy bring to life unique and innovative landscapes. Principal Kathryn Herman joined the firm in 2000, bringing a rich horticultural background and an intense interest in architecture that has informed her work on various residential and commercial landscape projects. Both view architecture as the most vital of the arts, and they strive to compliment it with appropriate designs and plantings.
The firm has won multiple Palladio and Stanford White Awards, as well as an Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) Gold Award, and was named the 2010 APLD International designer of the Year. In 2012, Herman was elected into the New England Design Hall of Fame for her contributions to landscape design in the New England region. Doyle Herman Design Associates is the recipient of the ICAA's 2018 Arthur Ross Award in Landscape Design.
Light refreshments will be available before the presentation, and there will be opportunity to purchase books afterwards.
