The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) is pleased to announce the next event in the Breakfast & Books Series, in partnership with the Rizzoli Bookstore. Once again, the Rizzoli Bookstore will welcome ICAA members and guests before store hours on Wednesday, February 21st, for a discussion with classical scholar and AD100 designer Thomas Jayne, who will be discussing the book The Decoration of Houses by Edith Wharton and Ogden Codman Jr.
Thomas Jayne is founder and principal of Jayne Design Studio. His interiors reflect his passion and wide-ranging knowledge of classical traditions and his quest to further those traditions within contemporary design.
He is a graduate of the University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Allied Arts, and received a master’s degree through The Winterthur Program in American Material Culture. After his formal studies, he pursued advanced fellowships at the American Wing of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Historic Deerfield, and the J. Paul Getty Museum, and held a position in Christie’s Estates, Appraisals, & Valuations department. His interest in architecture and the decorative arts eventually lead him to pursue a career in interior design, and he was fortunate to work in two of the most influential design studios in America—Parish-Hadley Associates and Kevin McNamara, Inc.—before opening his own decorating company in 1990.
Thomas is also the noted author of the highly successful The Finest Rooms in America: Fifty Influential Interiors from the Eighteenth Century to the Present, as well as American Decoration: A Sense of Place, a monograph on the work of Jayne Design Studio. Most recently, he has released his latest book Classical Principles for Modern Design – Lessons from Edith Wharton and Ogden Codman’s The Decoration of Houses.
Light refreshments will be available before the presentation, and there will be opportunity to purchase books afterwards.
