Hosted by the Washington Mid Atlantic Chapter
Christopher Newport University has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past decade, converting the former suburban community college-type school into a campus of classically inspired buildings and landscapes, resulting in significant positive change to student enrollment and school rankings.
Please join Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, Washington Mid Atlantic Chapter and the Center for Palladian Studies in America for a tour of this impressive new university led by Randy Holmes, and the architecture firm, Glavé & Holmes Architecture.
The recent completion of Christopher Newport Hall was the culmination of the university’s master plan for the campus’s great lawn. Its compelling design has been recognized as both a Palladio Award winner in 2016 and a John Russell Pope Award winner in 2017. This building along with seven other projects completed as a part of the master plan will be the subjects of this presentation and tour.
This event will begin with a presentation by Glavé & Holmes Architecture on the university’s master plan and campus buildings. A box lunch will follow the presentation, proceeded by a tour of the campus buildings. The event will end with a question and answer session in the award winning Pope Chapel.
This event is hosted by an ICAA Chapter. Please check the Chapter website, or contact the Chapter directly, for the most up-to-date details including dates, times, and pricing.
