Aldous Bertram, designer, artist, and author of Dragons and Pagodas, A Celebration of Chinoiserie will offer a presentation and lecture exploring his book, published September 2021 by Vendome Press. Aldous will delve into country houses, palaces, and homes across the world that have elements of chinoiserie in architecture and design, including the May Patterson Goodrum House in Atlanta, where this event is taking place. Following the presentation, which will include slides from the book offered by Aldous, a book signing and reception will ensue.
Aldous Bertram is an artist, art historian, and interior designer who works for Lindroth Design in Charleston. Prior work has included painting murals in Palm Beach and building miniatures that have been sold by Harrods in London. His designs and interiors have been featured in House Beautiful and other top-tier design publications. Aldous grew up in England and received his Ph.D. from Trinity College, Cambridge University, specializing in the historical influence of China on English garden design and architecture. His fascination with chinoiserie developed through frequent visits to English country houses and European palaces where the ever-adapting style has been used to create highly imaginative and incredibly beautiful rooms and garden pavilions.
