Hosted by the Louisiana Chapter
Join the ICAA-LA for a virtual lecture on Historic Tax Credits Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 6pm with our very own board member, Kelly Calhoun of Calhoun Preservation, LLC. During this virtual lecture, Kelly will examine historic preservation through the lens of economics! We will look at successful projects utilizing this program and the basic requirements for qualification. This is an amazing opportunity to learn about a rewarding program and to make an impact on the historical landscape of our dynamic state.
Investors who are willing to follow certain standards of renovation are eligible to receive up to 40% of their renovation costs back in the form of a state of federal tax credit towards their income tax. For example, if a developer spent $100,000 rehabilitating a historic building, they would get 20%, or $20,000, as a credit towards their state income taxes AND their federal income taxes, totaling $40,000 worth of credits.
Over the course of the lecture, Kelly will define a tax credit it, WHO benefits from the program, WHAT buildings are eligible for the credit, WHERE a building must be located to be eligible, WHEN a project should be completed, WHY the tax credit program exists, and HOW you can apply for historic tax credits on your own historic structure!
