Hosted by the ICAA Philadelphia Chapter
At the end of 2023, The Union League of Philadelphia will open a rooftop restaurant at the League House. It will be called Trumbauer’s, named in honor of the architect who designed the 15th Street addition, completed in 1911. Horace Trumbauer is the most prolific architect in Philadelphia’s history, an American architect of the Gilded Age.
His buildings are many of the most iconic in the region, but Trumbauer’s impact extends far beyond Philadelphia, to Newport, Harvard and Duke Universities and even to Florida. One of his first major commissions was the Grey Towers Castle (now part of Arcadia University), but Lynnewood Hall, of the Widener estate, launched his career. He was also a League member. Join to learn more about this important figure in architectural history. This program will be a moderated discussion with Legacy Foundation Historian, Jim Mundy, and city planner and architect, Craig Schelter.
