Join ICAA Board Member Kirk Henckels and architectural historian Anne Walker, authors of Life at the Top: New York's Most Exceptional Apartment Buildings, for a discussion of the evolution of apartment buildings that highlights some of New York's most extraordinary apartment buildings throughout history. This discussion will be moderated by Architectural Digest Decorative Arts Editor Mitch Owens.
Beautiful apartment buildings have long been a dazzling and essential feature of the New York City skyline. From the early icons such as the Dakota to the luxurious creations of the Roaring Twenties such as 740 Park Avenue and contemporary delights like Robert A. M. Stern’s 15 Central Park West, New York’s greatest apartment buildings are a fascinating and intriguing part of the city’s history. Kirk Henckels and Anne Walker will discuss a selection of these breathtaking buildings, uncovering their stories and features—and revealing, through photographs and architectural plans, both how these exclusive addresses were first envisioned and how they look today. In addition, they will illuminate the history and evolution of the apartment building, including floor plans, styles, and amenities, over the past 120 years.Copies of Life at the Top: New York's Most Exceptional Apartment Buildings will be available for purchase after the lecture. This event is co-hosted by Architectural Digest.
