Hosted by the ICAA Southern California Chapter
In the mid 19th century, Riverside was the far edge of the American West: Cahuilla and Serrano villages and California ranchos grew up around the Santa Ana River, 50 miles from a sleepy town called Los Angeles. In the 1870s, Riverside would explode into a world class destination: the birthplace of the Citrus Industry, home to the first golf course and polo field in the country, and site of the largest Spanish Colonial Revival building in the entire nation, the famous Mission Inn.
Join the ICAA Southern California to explore gems of Riverside, California. We’ll begin our tour with a look inside the landmark Peter J. Weber House, a rare example of Depression era ingenuity. We’ll then drive a short distance downtown to follow a mile-long walking route past some of the city’s notable structures, from architectural luminaries such as Julia Morgan, Arthur Benton, G. Stanley Wilson, and Myron Hunt. We’ll learn historical context and architectural detail at each site.
Our tour will finish at the Mission Inn, which houses a stunning collection of Mexican and Spanish art and artifacts, and where some of us will surely want to stop and enjoy a cool drink.
