COCKTAIL ATTIRE
Denver Country Club is one of the oldest country clubs in the United States and the oldest west of the Mississippi. Founded in 1887, the club originally centered around horse racing but soon expanded to tennis, polo, golf and other activities. Originally designed in 1904 by architect Theodor Davis Boal, the clubhouse was a simple, T-shape building that included a large front porch, lobby, reception room, dining room, sunroom, men’s and ladies’ lounges, men’s locker room, check room, kitchen, men’s grille, and office. In 1925, the clubhouse underwent a major renovation by architects William and Arthur Fisher who completely changed the architectural style of the building to Colonial Revival. The renovation included adding a new wing on the west side, shifting the entrance of the building to the north side and adding a women’s locker room (Sources: Denver Country Club, History Colorado, Colorado Encyclopedia).
