Hosted by the Rocky Mountain Chapel
ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA CHAPEL AT CAMP ST. MALO:Camp St. Malo, near Estes Park, was founded in 1916 as a summer camp for Catholic youth. In 1934, the Oscar Malo family hired Jacques Benedict and supplied $15,000 for the construction of the St. Catherine of Siena Chapel at Camp St. Malo which was formally dedicated in 1936. The Romanesque Revival chapel features native stone, intricate iron work and a dramatic rise from the sacred natural base it sits upon. Pope John Paul II visited the chapel in 1993 when Denver hosted World Youth Day. Infamously known as Chapel on the Rock, the beautiful structure, that survived both fire and flood, continues to be an exquisite example of architecture carefully responding to the natural landscape.Source: National Register of Historic Places, Camp Saint Malo, Rocky Mountain ResortsHOW TO PARTICIPATE:1.
