Clients have described Eric J. Smith Architect’s work as “classically detailed with modern elegance”. With a passion for stunning design and Old World craftsmanship, nothing is overlooked.
In 1983, after a complete restoration of a fire damaged David Adler home in Lake Forest, Illinois, Smith met the noted interior designer David Easton. Smith found that they shared a similar aesthetic and style of working and a great collaboration commenced. Smith moved to New York City in 1987 to run Easton’s architectural department, which became the core of Eric J. Smith Architect, P.C. The two firms continue to collaborate on many homes, while developing projects separately.
For over twenty years, commissions have involved Smith in projects both domestically and internationally, working in a wide variety of settings, styles and architectural vocabularies. The firm specializes in high-end, custom residential projects including new and renovated homes, apartments and townhouses. Our recent projects have included work in New York City, the Tri-state area, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, Aspen, Michigan and Florida. Our firm was founded in 1987 and currently has a talented staff of 25.
For every project, the firm seeks out a close collaboration with the interior decorators, landscape designer, engineers, contractors and other design professionals from the outset and orchestrates the entire process to create a unified design vision for the client.
